**UPDATED SEPT 19th!** Please read thoroughly! Last names of participants are at the bottom of page. (Saturday line swappers for card fronts are under the Swapping page here)
Hello Shoeboxers! We need to adust the numbers down a little due to a few missing spots. It’s a good idea to prepare 20 anyway since people mess up, etc… Since we are missing 9 spots and we have 3 groups, we will bring down each shoebox swap to 17. I tried hard to fill it but we do need to close registrations so we can prep! YOU SHOULD still bring 20 – just in case! It’s always better to have extras in case someone shows up or messes up.
Please remember to pre-punch, pre die cut and have ready as much of your project as possible! Time your project to less than 10 minutes! Label all your stuff! Have a completed sample there for others to follow with your name on the back. We will also ask you to write your name on your swap number we give you.
How to package the pieces for your project: It’s absolutely wonderful if you put all the parts and pieces in a zip or cello bag for each person. I’ll make the announcement to leave the empty bags altho I cannot guarantee they make it all back in there.
Things to bring other than your project box:
While you are stamping the other projects, you will want to have a little tote with scissors, adhesive, dimensionals, glue dots, bone folder and camera. (camera is just in case you cannot finish, you can take your packet and assemble later)
We will provide your number and clothespins to clip to your box! We will have baby wipes on plates on tables for cleaning or bring your own scrub.
We would LOVE to display a completed sample of your swap for everyone to see on Sunday! We will have a basket to collect those. PLEASE put your name on the back so we will know which one is yours! You can pick them back up at the end or donate them to our group who will make them into card fronts and donate them to our US soldiers.
Shoebox Swap Sunday, Sept 25th 10-3:30. (Sat AND Sunday attendees only-not a stand alone event)
What is a Shoebox Swap and how is it different from a Line Swap?
A line swap is where you come with swaps already prepared by you and swap with others that are already completed. Takes just a few minutes to swap.
A SHOEBOX SWAP is more of an activity or event! You bring all the supplies for everyone to make your card. You will bring your project in a box (like a shoe box) with all the supplies for others to make your card. 20 stampers are in each group and will move from box to box, stamping the projects.
What do I Bring?
You will bring the supplies to complete 20 FULL cards, all the same design. These 20 card kits will need to be prepared ahead of time and you will bring all items to make the cards with you in a shoebox. (Adhesive, scissors not required to be in box as everyone will bring their own to complete swaps) Inks, stamps, punches…whatever it takes to make your project! If your project requires special adhesive like glue dots, you will need to put that in the box.
Please plan your project to be something that can be completed in 10-15 minutes, something demonstrable at a workshop. You can do a 6×6, a card (FULL cards, please), or a 3-D item, but standard swap rules apply. Everything must be current SU, if we sell it, don’t use someone else’s.
You can prestamp images if you think you need to. Big Shot EMBOSS or cut dies in advance as there will not be room for a machine on the Table! Poke any holes, cut exact lengths of ribbons and papers in advance! You should bring 1 extra sample already completed in each box so stampers can use it as a guide to complete your project. You will be assembling 20 cards in 4 hours so there will only be time to assemble, which will be easy and fun!
TIPS for Prepping:
** VERY IMPORTANT! You must keep your project to 10 minutes! Time it, have a friend do it without your instruction! Stamp things in advance, minimal coloring and have it ready to just glue together!
-If you want your stuff back, label it.
-keep in mind that you only have so much table room. The box and a placemat in front of the box. That’s it.
-Keep your project easy enough that you don’t have to explain it.
-Create something that you would love to get back in return. Please use at least 2 layers, and add an embellishment of some sort Buttons, Ribbon, etc. Make sure all paper is cut properly, and check and double check to make sure you don’t forget anything that people will need to complete your project.
-Have extras in the box in case there are boo-boos and someone takes another piece of paper. It happens.
- put your name on the back of your swap!
Groups of 20
We will have groups of 20 shoe boxers assigned by color. When you arrive you can choose your color group. It’s fun for friends to split up and get double the ideas!
Rules of Engagement:
1. Participants must put their boxes out at 10 am and must leave them out until 3:30. If you are done you can leave but your box must stay set up until the swap closes at 3: 30. If you have to leave, have someone else pick up your box for you after 3:30. No exceptions.
2. The boxes should be as if GLUED to their spot on the table! No passing of boxes…ever.
3. Stampers must sit at table to work on project in front of them. When they are done with that project, stampers must stand up and move to next open seat.
4. There will be no reaching into the box next to you. There will be no exchanging of boxes with your friend sitting next to you. Remember that someone is waiting for your seat and it’s not fair to make them wait on 2 people.
